Solstice is an artist, activist, and scientist who graduated from Willamettte University’s Photography and Art & Ecology programs. Born in Easthampton, Massachusetts and living in Portland, OR. since 2014, their work primarily focuses on visually exploring ecological relationships between human and other-than-human beings, especially in conversation with the global Climate Crisis.

His work as a scientist, ecologist, and student informs their artistic expression and he seeks to translate the often indigestible academic conclusions of scientific research into the emotionally accessible realm of art, action, and activism.

Outside of their fine-art work, he also has a career in wildlife and conservation photography. Having created bodies of work alongside wildlife conservation organizations such as the Oregon Zoo and Oregon’s Wildlife Safari, he believes strongly in the power of intimate wildlife images’ ability to illuminate ecological concepts and to strike passions surrounding conservation efforts. Their conservation photography work paired with radical academic writing follows similar methods of communication established in their fine-art practice.

He has exhibited work in Portland, OR. at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, Albatross Gallery, and the Holt Gallery at PNCA.
